Prematurity and Infants

NEURODEVELOPMENTAL SUPPORTIVE CARE (NDSC)

NDSC for premature infants are offered in-hospital as per referral to parents individually or in groups as well as through Telehealth services.

Please book an appointment or ask your doctor to refer your baby.

NDSC Includes: 

  • Assessments in terms of muscle tone, regulation and sleep states of your premature baby within the NICU.
  • Ongoing NDSC intervention through positive touch, ensuring optimal neurodevelopmental positioning, handling and environmental adaptations to promote optimal brain development. if indicated soft splinting of hands and/or feet.
  • Parent consultations within the NICU and PICU or through Telehealth services related to your baby’s brain and sensory development, baby cues, calming techniques, positioning, handling and feeding.
  • Follow-up appointments post discharge to provide guidance and monitor developmental progress within the first year.

 NEWBORN BEHAVIOURAL OBSERVATIONS (NBO) 

Assessment and parental guidance of newborns according to the Newborn Behavioural Assessment Scale (NBAS) and -Observation (NBO)  on engagement, cues, regulation,  handling.

Research based sensory-motor developmental and  play recommendations are provided.
