Our son always had texture sensitivity and food aversion, which stemmed from reflux issues at birth and a highly sensitive personality. After several attempts with other OTs and paediatric dieticians, we were at a loss for how to get our son to eat a variety of foods and sufficient calories.

Elise was referred to us by someone whose child was being tube-fed. We were told that Elise helped them transition to solids. We started calling our sessions “food fun” and Elise encouraged our son to play with food, while addressing gross motor and muscle-tone issues. Her gentle and sensitive approach helped our son tremendously and Elise was able to gain his trust quickly.

Our son gained in confidence with every session. Our anxiety and stress surrounding his eating slowly lessened too. We were given helpful print-outs to follow at home. Our son started eating better slowly but surely and began to see food as a positive thing. We were able to solidify the improvements at home with constant support and communication from Elise. She was available whenever we needed her and was quick and efficient with her responses. She also advised us regarding his school and potty training. We are so grateful for Elise and her help. She never pushed too hard, but always encouraged our son to move at his pace. She was always patient and kind. We would not be where we are without Elise’s help and would recommend her to everyone.

Our son stopped eating any food apart from his trusted five items at the age of three. For more than two years, mealtimes were an issue and we nearly gave up. Many professionals tried different techniques to help us to overcome his fear of food. All without significant success. We finally heard about Elise that started the journey with us. In her soft yet firm way, she won ground and turned around our son’s mentality about food. We now enjoy mealtimes, we all eat the same food and he has gained tremendous confidence. Elise is simply amazing and her success is evident in the results. Thank you Elise for helping us and changing our son’s life.

Elise helped both our 3 year old with sensory issues and us, her parents, understand her difficulties! Through weekly sessions and feedback – our daughter’s eating, social anxiety and ability to cope with sensory input improved drastically and for that, we are ever grateful!

Elise is wonderful, warm, calm and connected instantly with our little one! Her sessions were the highlight of her week!

Regulation Difficulties

The early regulation of arousal and physiological state is essential for successful adaptation to the environment and plays a key role in maintaining sleep and awake cycles as well as regulating hunger and satiety.

Infants and toddlers with a regulatory disorder experience problems in both behavioral regulation and sensory-motor organization.

Problems are experienced with sleep, self-consoling, feeding, attention and arousal, mood regulation or transitions and is essential to address as part of treatment protocol for related conditions.

Prematurity and Infants

NEURODEVELOPMENTAL SUPPORTIVE CARE (NDSC)

NDSC for premature infants are offered in-hospital as per referral to parents individually or in groups as well as through Telehealth services.

Please book an appointment or ask your doctor to refer your baby.

NDSC Includes:

Assessments in terms of muscle tone, regulation and sleep states of your premature baby within the NICU.
Ongoing NDSC intervention through positive touch, ensuring optimal neurodevelopmental positioning, handling and environmental adaptations to promote optimal brain development. if indicated soft splinting of hands and/or feet.
Parent consultations within the NICU and PICU or through Telehealth services related to your baby’s brain and sensory development, baby cues, calming techniques, positioning, handling and feeding.
Follow-up appointments post discharge to provide guidance and monitor developmental progress within the first year.

NEWBORN BEHAVIOURAL OBSERVATIONS (NBO)

Assessment and parental guidance of newborns according to the Newborn Behavioural Assessment Scale (NBAS) and -Observation (NBO) on engagement, cues, regulation, handling.

Research based sensory-motor developmental and play recommendations are provided.

Splinting and Kinesio Taping

Splinting and Kinesio Taping

Prevention is better than cure. Premature infant soft splinting and kinesio taping as well as splinting of the neurological hand for older little ones.

Process:

The doctor’s referral will be followed by an assessment of your baby’s hands or feet.
As indicated by the assessment, splints and recommendations will be provided either to prevent later difficulties or contractures and to promote optimal function.
